Just passed a hundred downloads on Smashwords!
On the advice of a few people who’ve told me that Amazon may not price match until the book has been listed for a few weeks, I went ahead and listed Artifice: Episode One on Amazon this afternoon.
It’s now listed on Amazon for $0.99. As it’s not my intention to actually sell this episode, I would prefer if no one bought it until the price match goes into effect. However, I know this is a slightly unrealistic hope.
Therefore, if you have purchased Artifice: Episode One at Amazon, well, first of all you have my thanks. However, feel free to refund it and download it again for free at Smashwords. If the Amazon refund period has expired, let me know, and I will see about getting you a Smashwords discount coupon for Episode Three (once it’s released).
Artifice: Episode One has been downloaded 86 times within the last two days! Not Neil Gaiman numbers, by any means, but it’s exciting to watch that counter increase. Well… not that exciting, but you know what I mean.
Also, I’ve added a Google Ads thingy further down the page at the side. It’s a blank spot right now, but the Google Adwords page says that advertisements will start within a few days.
Well, this is the update I been waiting to write for quite a while now.
Artifice: Episode One was uploaded last night to Smashwords.com, and is available for free!
It’s been a long road so far, but I’m hopefully just setting out. Now that I’ve realized how to spot some of the bumps in the road, it should be a smoother ride for Episode Two.
Just to clarify, as soon as the Smashwords team is finished vetting the book, it should also be available on the following sites:
- Barnes & Noble
- Apple iBookstore
- Page Foundry
- Baker-Taylor’s Blio
- Baker-Taylor’s Axis360
It’ll also be available on Amazon, once it’s been listed on one of those.
Maps of the regions in the novel will also be uploaded in short order. With luck, it should be a part of the next Weekly Update.
I’m currently compiling a list of places where I can plug my book (for free). If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment. Once it’s been listed on all the major outlets, I’ll start an ‘official’ advertising campaign.
If you’ve stumbled across this page after finding my book on Smashwords, you have my sincere thanks. I know there are many other books out there to be read, and I’m glad you chose mine. 🙂[Late Edit: A few friends have suggested, since I won’t be taking any payment for either of the first two episodes, to use a Paypal ‘donation’ thingy in the meantime. I’ll admit, I’m a bit hesitant about it, but it’s now been placed in the sidebar. Hopefully, it doesn’t look too tacky…]
Smashwords auto-vetter reported no issues with the upload, and it’s now available for download through Smashwords.com!
Hopefully, the lineup for Premium Catalog (B&N, Kobo, etc.) vetting isn’t too long. With any luck, it should be up before Christmas on those sites.
Immediately after that, I’ll put it on Amazon.
Now for a drink…
Well, I’ve just completed converting and vetting the document to comply with Smashwords standards.
However, it’s 1:30 in the morning, and I don’t want any weariness induced problems during the upload.
So, I’m going to being uploading to Smashwords tomorrow. As a plus, this will give the last of my beta readers the chance to get back to me with any suggestions.
Until tomor… er… later today.
Well, it’s done.
I’ve gotten some good feedback, and used the extra time to make some edits – hopefully for the better.
Now for the bad news, I’ve not managed to get the maps to display properly on the eReaders I’ve tested, and have decided not to include them for now. The maps aren’t really necessary for the Part One, in my opinion, as most of the story takes place within three major locations. That said, I will upload whatever maps I have to this site, once I’m happy with how they look. Also, I may decide to release a revised copy of Part One in the future, once I’ve ironed out the bugs with the maps.
I’m going to allow myself two more days for any last minute edits, and will then be uploading it to Smashwords over the weekend.
